Las Vegas Strip Sahara Hotel-Casino Closes

Onetime host to luminaries Elvis Presley and the Beatles, the Sahara Hotel-Casino closed its doors at 2:00 p.m. May 16, 2011 after 59 years. At one time Sinatra's infamous Rat Pack frequented the Sahara, a casino noted for its lounge acts featuring Don Rickles, Johnny Carson and Louis Prima.

Owners SBE Entertainment decided the casino was no longer economically viable to maintain on the North Las Vegas Strip property. Other recent closings on the Strip include the Stardust, Landmark and Boardwalk.
